Wanna feel old? Miley Cyrus‘ iconic single “7 Things” was released 13 years ago today!
The 28-year-old took to Instagram earlier to celebrate the song’s anniversary by posting a throwback slideshow of her favorite moments from the era, including a short clip of her jamming to the song with Selena Gomez at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, that famous photo of her and Nick Jonas with his face scratched out from the visual, and even a quote from about the song from her book Miles to Go.

“7 Things” was released on June 17, 2008, followed by the music video on June 28. The song was inspired by her former relationship with then boyfriend Nick Jonas, who later went on to date yet another Disney star, Selena Gomez, right after.
In her book, Miles to Go, Cyrus emphasized that “[she] was angry when [she] wrote 7 Things’.”
“I wanted to punish him, to get back at him for hurting me. It starts with a list of what I ‘hate.’ But I’m not a hater. My heart knew from the start that it was going to turn into a love song,” she said.
She explains that her song is about “forgiving, not forgetting.”
13 years later, both Miley and the Internet quickly noticed that the song oddly resembles current Disney starlet Olivia Rodrigo‘s latest single “good 4 u,” which is allegedly about the love triangle between Rodrigo and her costar Joshua Bassett, and how he left her for Sabrina Carpenter.
