Calling movie fans – it’s the MTV Movie Awards!
Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson (who are both nominees) are serving as co-hosts so be prepared to laugh. This year marks the awards’ 25th anniversary so you definitely don’t want to miss this event!
This year the award show will be moving to the Warner Bros. Studios and for the first time, the show is taping a day early. So stay off social media if you don’t want any spoiler alerts before it airs on MTV Sunday evening.
During the award show, viewers will get an exclusive first look at upcoming films such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Suicide Squad. There is also a special musical performance from Ariana Grande and Halsey. Grade will be performing her hit single “Dangerous Woman” while Halsey debuts “Castle”, her single off of The Huntsman: Winter’s War soundtrack.
Leading in nominations is Star Wars: The Force Awakens with 11 nominations. Creed and Straight Outta Compton were two movies that basically everyone thought deserved honors this year (except the Oscars) so only time will tell if either of those will take home The MTV Movie of the Year award.
Being honored with the biggest award of the evening is Will Smith with the Generation award, which is “given to an artist who has shown us a variety of impressive roles, a personal and professional flair and of course, an awesome level of talent.” Smith has previously won 17 MTV Movie Awards and even hosted the ceremony back in 1994.
Melissa McCarthy will also be honored with the Comedic Genius Award, making her the first woman to ever receive this award.
Presenters for the evening will include Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Kendrick Lamar, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Olivia Munn and Gigi Hadid, among others.
The 2016 MTV Movie Awards air Sunday, April 10 at 8PM EST/PST on MTV.
