Music Monday: Meet Nick de la Hoyde

Happy Monday, readers!

Meet our new Music Monday artist this week, Nick de la Hoyde.

Nick de la Hoyde is a 22-year-old singer and rapper from Sydney, Australia who is ready to show the world what he can do in addition to his amazing YouTube covers and mashups!

Turning to music as a means to express his angst pursuing a professional football career in Barcelona, Nick’s music presents a unique and deeply personal insight into young, dreams and determination. Melding sounds of hip hop, rock, RnB and spoken word, together with introspective lyrics that read like personal journal entries, Nick has quickly made a name for himself, amassing a large following across multiple social media platforms. This has led Nick to become a powerful youth role model, using his music and unique entrepreneurial skills to establish himself as a brand for both youth determination and empowerment.

Earlier this year, Nick dropped a new single called “Changing” which we know you will be singing over and over because its just that catchy. The track is a fresh, upbeat pop statement featuring an infectious groove, bouncing synths and playful lyrics, something that Nick’s music and brand have become renowned for. A fitting follow up to his previous singles, “The Longest Way” and “By My Side,” “Changing” comes as a result of Nick’s ongoing collaboration with production duo and brothers Joseph and John de la Hoyde.

CelebSecrets4U caught up with Nick de la Hoyde recently to talk all things music! In our interview, the Aussie singer/rapper talks about his musical direction, what its like collaborating with his brothers, and his success on YouTube. Make sure to read the full Q&A below to learn more about Nick!

CelebSecrets4U: How would you describe your sound to our readers?

Nick de la Hoyde: “This is always the hardest question! I like to have my hand in a bit of everything, but if I had to describe it, I would say alternative pop. It’s familiar but something you have never heard before; bright, dark, and eclectic. At the moment we’re experimenting with PBR&B, trap and house sounds. It’s really coming together and I really think it shows my fans exactly who I am.”

CelebSecrets4U: You have over 23k+ YouTube subscribers for your mashups and covers. What would be your favorite cover/mashup you’ve posted?

Nick de la Hoyde: “I think that my favourite mashup/cover I have done on my channel would have to be either my The Weeknd – “Can’t Feel My Face” or the Adele – “Hello” cover!”

CelebSecrets4U: When did you realize your YouTube was taking off?

Nick de la Hoyde: “It’s hard to say because I know I still have long way to go and a lot more to build, but I would say after the release of my single “The Longest Way” I noticed a change.”

CelebSecrets4U: Your new single “Changing” is very catchy and has a very infectious beat… Did you find yourself singing it out of the studio? Like maybe in your car or at the dinner table?

Nick de la Hoyde: “I definitely do find myself singing it here and there! The place I would probably find myself singing it the most would have to be in the shower!”

CelebSecrets4U: The music video for “Changing” was at the beach and some cliff diving took place… Would you consider yourself a daredevil?

Nick de la Hoyde: “I am usually the type of person who tries new things, so I guess you could say that (laughs). I am not the best with heights, however, so when we had to jump off the cliff into the water I was pretty worried!”

CelebSecrets4U: What was your favorite part about working with your brothers on “The Longest Way” and “By My Side?”

Nick de la Hoyde: “The best part when we made ‘By My Side’ was probably when we got it to the point we were all happy with the way it sounded.”

CelebSecrets4U: Your lyrics are mainly written about personal experience… is there a lyric you’re most proud of?

Nick de la Hoyde: “A lyric I would be most proud of would have to depend on what mood I am in at the time (laughs). However, I was always happy with the chorus lyrics for “By My Side.” The day I wrote the chorus I was hooked and couldn’t get my mind off it.”

CelebSecrets4U: For our readers that haven’t heard of you yet, why do you think they should check out your music?

Nick de la Hoyde: “I think people should give me a listen because I feel that a lot of people would be able to relate to most of the music I write.”

CelebSecrets4U: Since our website is called CelebSecrets4U, can you share a secret about yourself that most people wouldn’t know about you?

Nick de la Hoyde: “A hidden secret of mine would be that I used to be a semi-professional football player!  I can also speak some Spanish 😉 (laughs).”
