Our “Music Monday” pick this week is a singer/songwriter that goes by the name Roméo Testa.
Roméo is a 19-year-old from Costa Rica that has a rare voice that can seamlessly blend rock, blues and soul into one potent pop music package. Testa has been pursuing his muse since starting to play violin at 7 years old, encouraged by the Harmony Project, which provided funds for inner-city musical education in the Los Angeles public school system. By 11, he was writing songs in his bedroom with an electric guitar and cutting them on a TASCAM tape recorder, both given to him as birthday gifts from his father. Roméo went on to study viola at the prestigious Interlochen Music School in Northern Michigan. Currently, Roméo signed to Red Light Management and Columbia Records and released his debut six-song EP this past May.
The End EP, executive produced by Dan Wilson, offers a wide range musical diversity. When listening to The End EP, one will feel pop, hip-hop, R&B, and alternative vibes as he or she goes through each track. All six songs reflect on real-life moments that happened throughout the 19-year-old’s life, including bullying, living in London, and his older brother.
CelebSecrets4U met up with Roméo at Bardot in Hollywood to chat about his debut EP titled The End, the writing and recording process for the record, his single “Light It Up” in the 7-Up commercial, and what’s next for the rising star. Roméo even revealed a super funny secret — you have to watch the video to see what it is!
