Celeb Secrets: Thanks for chatting with us! Congratulations on your single “Universe.” Can you tell us what the song is about to you?

Nikitaa: “Thank you for having me! Honestly – I wrote ‘Universe’ at a time when I was still heartbroken and I was looking for the hope of a better, deeper and braver love. And to me, that’s what ‘Universe’ became. The possibility of an amazing, and true love of real commitment!”

CS: How is this song different from what you’ve released before? What do you want listeners to take away?

Nikitaa: “Well, to kick things off this is my first love song! I’ve never released one of those before… and I’ve also never fully taken this direction sonically before. I think ‘Universe’ is definitely a step deeper into my realm as an artist, and I’m so excited for it! I want this song to make my listeners feel that hope and that excitement for a deeper and more soulful love that I felt while writing it.”

CS: You’ve been consistently releasing content during quarantine. How do you stay motivated to do so and what advice can you give to someone who may feel unmotivated during this time?

Nikitaa: “It’s not always been easy to release content during quarantine! Or even to stay motivated. I think it takes commitment, and it also takes allowing the unmotivated days and moments – learning when to push and when to let myself be. To those who feel unmotivated: it’s always good to find different channels to pour your creativity into! It helps to have fresh perspective. Or alternatively, taking a break is okay too! Sometimes we need to take a breather from the things we love to do simply because we place too many expectations on what we can do with them. I understand for some of us this might not be as easy as it sounds because of several different reasons, but finding a way to do this is extremely helpful.”

CS: The visuals are amazing! How did you come up with the concept and execute it?

Nikitaa: “Thank you so much! The execution of the music video was part magical and part hilarious! Overall I wanted to create something a little more whimsical and surreal and wanted to bring all those metaphors from the lyrics into the visuals. I was always confident I wanted to do the scene in the water with all the glitter as well as the longer profile shots, and I was sure of how I would shoot them! I just didn’t know the water would be pooled into a 5ft kiddie pool, and that I’d be in the water for 5 hours straight, or that when we accidentally turned one of the lights off we’d end up with the main shot we used for the bridge, or that we’d be making clouds out of pillow stuffing and Christmas lights haha. This shoot was a lot of DIY, and a lot of creativity and definitely still an at home family effort! I couldn’t have done it without them!”

CS: Can you tell us any fun secrets or funny stories from filming the video?

Nikitaa: “Okay, I think this one could be obvious but I very quickly and amusingly learned that laying in a kid’s pool of blackened glitter water for 5 hours is not always fun… and washing it out of your hair? A whole adventure by itself!! On the other hand though, the bed of unicorn clouds? I NEVER ever wanted to get up from there! It was strangely comforting, I felt like I was literally inside a Pinterest board and I never wanted to leave.”
