Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum Drops Music Video for “Nevertheless” (Watch)

Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum, the trio fronted by Dexter star Michael C. Hall and bandmates Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie) and Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers, Morningwood), just released a haunting new video for their single “Nevertheless,” and it perfectly encapsulates the band’s dark sense of humor and love for all things dystopian.

Directed by cult filmmaker Dylan Greenberg, the video finds keyboardist Katz-Bohen and drummer Yanowitz falling victim to a sinister mind control program, portrayed by Hall’s disembodied head. As Matt and Peter attempt to escape through a Tron-inspired digital maze, Michael’s head soars through the air, hypnotically taunting “nevertheless, nevertheless, nevertheless.”

In conjunction with today’s video release, the band also announced their first European headline tour which kicks off November 27 in the UK. Before that tour, however, New York fans are in for a treat — the band will be returning to their old stomping grounds, Mercury Lounge, on October 30 for a special Halloween-weekend performance! Tickets are on sale now, and more details can be found here. It’s sure to be an unforgettably spooky time, and you never know who might show up 😉

The unstoppable super-trio have powered through the pandemic, releasing their debut album, THANKS FOR COMING, less than a year after the release of their self-titled EP. Drawing inspiration from the glam, experimental music of David Bowie, Giorgio Moroder’s 1970s disco productions, 80s new wave, and contemporary electronic dance acts like Justice, Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum chooses to eschew traditional rock instrumentation in favor of stripped-down synthesizer-and-drum attack.

“For me, this is a once in a lifetime band. To be in it with my two friends at this stage in our respective careers is incredible,” says Yanowitz in a press release. “It’s Mike’s first band so it almost feels like the first time for all of us…a completely unexpected project that has taken a hold of all three of us. I personally am very grateful that Princess came along.”

While most people think of Michael C. Hall as the dramatic actor in award-winning and popular television series, he started his career singing on and off Broadway in leading roles ranging from the silver-tongued lawyer Billy Flynn in Chicago, to the flamboyant Emcee in Cabaret, to Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Hall mentions that one of the highlights of his career was being cast by David Bowie to star in the late artist’s musical, Lazarus.

“Hedwig brought us together, but there’s some sort of chemistry that we enjoy as a band that’s certainly unique to the band and the three of us, and I think we all appreciate that we’re able to execute things collectively that we wouldn’t be able to do on our own or as a duo,” says Hall, the band’s primary lyricist. “But, it’s sort of a mysterious thing, like any sort of magic that makes a relationship sing is something that you ultimately can’t quite name, I think that’s a part of what’s going on with us.”
