PUBLIC are back with new music and getting us ready for the warm weather!
The Ohio-bred pop-rockers, comprised of singer/guitarist John Vaughn, drummer Ben Lapps and bassist/keyboardist/singer Matthew Alvarado, just dropped their new song “Honey In The Summer” today and you’ve heard it here first — it’s going to be the track of the season.
Loaded with summer goodness with a catchy chorus that exudes a chilled-out vibe, the breezy laid-back love song is guaranteed to put you in a good mood!
“Honey In The Summer” is the official follow-up to the band’s global smash “Make You Mine,” which is now RIAA Certified Gold in the US and charted on two different radio formats. The song first exploded when over 2.5 million videos were made on TikTok using the band’s unbelievably catchy love song and has garnered over 220 million streams to date.
“[Make You Mine] has become something we never thought it would be. The TikTok world continues to use it and now with radio being really strong too, it sort of feels like a fantasy,” band member John Vaughn tells Celeb Secrets.
“What I never thought would happen was the global spread,” Matthew adds. “When we first started, we saw the TikTok trend and it started trending in the US, and then fast forward to now and our biggest cities are Indonesia and Malaysia.”

Before the Coronavirus, the band was on tour with American Authors and Magic Giant, a 34-city North American run with packed out shows in venues across the nation, including New York City’s famed Webster Hall.
“[This tour was] the first time that we’ve had crowds that we don’t know personally singing our lyrics back to us because they just heard our song somewhere. I am walking away from it with a sort of renewed sense of gratitude for what we’re doing and excitement” John says, with Matt adding, “This is the first tour that we’ve had support from. Every tour that we’ve done so far has just been like tour and that’s it. This one is the first one where we have a show, go to radio, and then fly out and write songs.”

The guys have been working on new music and will continue to release songs throughout the year.
“I think there’s a little bit, but I think it’s good pressure,” John says about releasing new music. “I think it’s us just wanting to put out quality music especially now that we have more people paying attention to the music we put out.”
“You never want to disappoint anybody, but at the same time we have and have had a lot of music we’ve been sitting on for quite awhile that we’re so excited about. We really love some of the unreleased material, so I think it’s just about picking like what’s the first step.”
