Red Bull BC One Will Host Its National Final in Los Angeles This September

It’s back, baby! The world’s largest, most esteemed breaking competition is on the hunt to find the best break dancer in the nation next month, as Red Bull BC One just announced details for their USA National Finals.

For those who were following our Red Bull Dance Your Style coverage this past spring, BC One is similar in a sense of its bracket style battles and journey to win the national title. The difference? The b-boys and b-girls will be break dancing while paying homage to the breaking and hip-hop community, rather than showing off their creative side by choosing any type of freestyle dance.

This season, hundreds of dancers gave it their all at the regional competitions in Philadelphia, Austin, Orlando, Boston, and Seattle, and the winners and wild card breakouts from five of the tour stops will come together at Eden Hollywood in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 17 to battle it out for the National Championship title, ultimately representing the country at the Red Bull BC One World Final in New York this November.

“The Red Bull BC One National Final is an exciting opportunity to put my training and skills to the test against the best b-girls across the country. With the Olympics around the corner, this prestigious competition is a stepping stone on the road to Paris,” B-girl Pep-C shares. The Olympic hopeful who will be competing in Los Angeles, took home the win at the Red Bull BC One Cypher East in Philadelphia last month.

The event will see the nation’s top 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls compete in a knockout bracket, judged by a panel of respected figures within the breaking and hip-hop community, including b-girl legend Asia 1 and Red Bull BC One All Star Neguin with Rakaa, of Dilated Peoples hosting the evening. In addition to the winners from each region, Red Bull invited top US breakers Hijack, Mace, Snap1, Rascal Randi, and Sunny for one more shot at being crowned Red Bull BC One’s national champ. Regardless of who takes home the W, only one b-boy and one b-girl will go on to represent the USA at the Last Chance Cypher during the Red Bull BC One World Final in New York on November 11.

To get fans hyped for the competition, Red Bull BC One hosted Breakalicious @ Delicious, a celebration of west coast hip hop and break, on last Friday (August 26) at Delicious Pizza, a neighborhood pizzeria and local community hub from the founders of the iconic hip-hop label Delicious Vinyl, which helped launch seminal artists such as Tone Lōc (“Wild Thing”), Young MC (“Bust a Move”), The Pharcyde and more. It featured an open jam session, the unveiling of a limited edition Squadron pizza box, and the launch of a four-week photo exhibition exploring the west coast break scene.
