Red Bull Culture Clash Returns to Los Angeles to Celebrate Latin Culture with Special Guests (Recap)

From giving the spotlight to underground scenes like street dancing to taking action sports to new levels (remember Cliff Diving last month month?), it’s no secret that Red Bull throws some of the best events and competitions in the world. So, when the Celeb Secrets team heard that Red Bull Culture Clash was making its way to Los Angeles, we knew that we had to come out and see what it was all about.

On June 24, the energy drink company brought Culture Clash to the City of Angels — the first time in nearly a decade — to celebrate the city’s Latinx musical and cultural diaspora with reggaeton, global bass and hip-hop.

For those who don’t know, Red Bull Culture Clash is the ultimate soundclash! Inspired by Jamaican sound system culture, the event showcases four crews, assembled from some of the top MCs, DJs and producers on the planet, as they face off in a pitched battle. And four of the west coast’s best party crews — Gasolina, The Do Over, Subsuelo and Recreo — were given the freedom to take over a corner of the venue to face off for a four-round battle, bringing big sound, heavy tunes, fierce competition and special guests to ultimately win over the crowd and be named the winner of Culture Clash LA.

The Shrine had an electrifying energy from the minute the first round started, as fans in attendance were treated to fun battles, performances by legendary reggaeton duo, Luny Tunes, Tony Touch, Ape Drums, Sky Rompiendo, Los Rakas, Álvaro Díaz, DJ Playero, and DJ Blass, and surprise appearances from Cypress Hill, Ying Yang Twins, Danny Trejo, Aloe Blacc, Xzibit, Don Chezina, Walshy Fire, Nina Sky, the USC Trojan Marching Band, Frankie Quiñones (aka Creeper #CholoFit) and more.

But it all came down to the final round, where The Do-Over Crew, featuring Tony Touch, completely stole the show with its fun-loving funky sounds from disco to dancehall, house to hip-hop, and soul to samba. We could NOT get enough and clearly the crowd agreed, as they ultimately crowned them as the Culture Clash LA champions.

“We wanted to extend a thank you to @redbull @redbullusa @godouble0 for including The Do-Over in the return of Red Bull Culture Clash. The real winning team is the City of LA,🥇” the group said in a statement on Instagram. “Major respect to the other crews @gasolina_party@recreorecreo @subsuelocrew @apedrums @milkman@falcons @ronald_sdp @iamcclove @elcanyonazo @djethos@joaqu.n as it’s been months of blood, sweat & tears to pull this off so a big salute to all of the squads! 🤝👏”
