“Riverdale” to Officially End After Seven Seasons

Get ready to say goodbye to Riverdale! The fan-favorite tv show is officially coming to an end after seven seasons.

The CW’s CEO Mark Pedowitz announced that the show, which is currently in its sixth season, is set to come back for one final season.

According to TV Line, Pedowitz was on a call today (May 19) where he announced the ending of the show. The outlet reports Pedowitz said, “We had a long conversation with [executive producer] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves…We want to make sure it goes out the right way.”

After hitting the air for the first time in 2017, Riverdale is based on the iconic Archie Comics of the high school characters Betty (played by Lili Reinhart), Jughead (played by Cole Sprouse), Veronica (played by Camila Mendes), and Archie (played by KJ Apa). Throughout the TV series, these characters uncover various evils that lurk within their hometown.

Sprouse spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the show back in December. Sprouse shared, “I think I’m very lucky that people took to the show, and it’s created an absolutely stellar platform for all of the young actors on the show to – when the show eventually wraps itself – go, ‘My God, that was a huge opportunity’, and it served as a huge opportunity for us…”

Currently in its sixth season, the string of episodes kicked off last fall with a five-episode “Rivervale” event that saw Archie and company face a macabre series of supernatural adventures, with Kiernan Shipka stopping by to reprise her Netflix role as teen witch Sabrina Spellman.

The show came back in March introduced a fresh nemesis in Percival Pickens (played by Chris O’Shea), the posh newcomer who quickly took over the town with his mysterious mind-control powers. Archie, Betty, Jughead and Cheryl then learned they had mysterious powers of their own.

With no release date yet for season 7, TV Line reports that the final season will air in 2023.
