After teasing pictures and clips on her Instagram story over the past few days, Sabrina Carpenter dropped the music video for her newly released single, “Skin!”
The retro romantic dream film-inspired music video was directed by Jason Lester and featured Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actor Gavin Leatherwood as Carpenter’s love interest in the video.
The music video features Carpenter and Leatherwood in three different living spaces – a bedroom, dining room, and living room – of a retro-styled home. In these three settings, the pair are seen completely immersed in each other while things around their environment begin to erupt in chaos. Carpenter is completely unphased of her surroundings, emulating her stunning lyrics, “I wish you knew/That even you/Can’t get under my skin/If I don’t let you in.”

Carpenter recently received a lot of comments and criticisms regarding her new single after fans speculated that it was a direct response to Olivia Rodrigo’s, “drivers license.” A few days after the release of “Skin,” the artist uploaded a post on Instagram thanking everyone who has listened to the track and “especially those who have opened their minds to lyrically what [she] was trying to get across.” She continues mentioning Rodrigo’s song, saying “I wasn’t bothered by a few lines in a (magnificent) song and wrote a diss track about it.” Additionally, she reveals that this song was a way for her to release and cope with her emotions after reaching a tipping point.
Before the music video release, Carpenter posted an Instagram story teasing the video, and fans were wondering if rumored-boyfriend, Joshua Bassett (aka Rodrigo’s rumored ex-boyfriend), was going to star in the music video alongside her. The rumor was quickly dispersed after people quickly put two and two together once Leatherwood posted a picture on his own Instagram story.
Fans also caught something while watching the music video! In the scene where Carpenter is singing on top of a car in the rain, the license plate, clearly visible, shows “SC52021!” Can we expect a full album from the singer/songwriter later this year?
“Skin” currently has over 30 million streams, hitting 10 million within the first 48 hours of its release! It is also Carpenters’ first single on the Billboard Hot 100.
