After 14 months of marriage, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are divorcing.
The news broke earlier this week via TMZ claiming that the couple split nearly three weeks ago, claiming irreconcilable differences. Asghari is seeking spousal support and requesting that the “Toxic” singer pay his lawyer fees. The couple has no children, and their joint assets will be decided.
The fitness trainer, 29, confirmed his impending divorce on social media Thursday afternoon claiming, “After six years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other, and I wish her the best always.”
He continued to plead, “Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
Spears, 41, has not commented. Except, she’s posted one lane Instagram post with herself on horseback with the caption, “Buying a horse soon!”
It’s rumored that Iranian-American model is set to argue the negotiations of the pair’s prenup and will be exposing the pop singer if needed. It’s also rumored that this divorce is a result of cheating. His rep says otherwise.
“There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. All these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards Spears and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
Spears and Asghari started dating in 2016 after being cast in one of the singer’s music videos, “Slumber Party,” and got engaged in September of 2021. They wed in June 2022 and hosted the likes of Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Ansel Elgort, Paris Hilton, and more. Now, shy of 14 months, the couple’s ending isn’t so happily ever after.
