Rising country musician Sam Williams has “No Problem” making us feel all the feels in his bold new single — a sultry pop-country-R&B fusion that marks a fresh new chapter in his story. And with his upcoming album Act II: COUNTRYSTAR on the way July 11, the grandson of country legend Hank Williams is proving that he’s more than ready to make his own legacy — one that’s heartfelt, fearless, and proudly his own.
“I think ‘No Problem’ is a banger,” Sam tells Celeb Secrets with a cheeky grin on a Zoom call. “It feels like summer with the windows down… jet skis, making out, having a cold brew — the whole vibe.”
The single, co-written by Williams with Nick Bailey, Michael Tyler, and Noah West, sways with a velvety groove and soft swagger as Sam floats through a dreamy list of his everyday “problems” — tequila burns, winding roads, and rising suns — only to land with a confession that’s both intimate and defiant: “I ain’t got a problem loving you.”
The track is paired with a stunning black-and-white music video that beautifully captures the magic of young queer love — quiet laughs, tender glances, and cozy moments that radiate comfort and truth. It’s a striking visual that speaks volumes without shouting, letting the story unfold in shared silences and smirks between two people in sync.
“Sometimes I can’t relate to the song because I’m single right now,” Sam jokes. “But I guess I ain’t got a problem loving myself either.”
“No Problem” and the previously released title track “COUNTRYSTAR” are just two of the seven genre-bending songs that make up Act II: COUNTRYSTAR, the middle chapter in a bold trilogy Sam’s been crafting since 2023. If Act I: Scarlet Lonesome was moody and introspective, Act II is the glamorous, glittery climax — the heartbreak recovery, the messy confidence, the “I’m gonna dance through it anyway” moment.
“I see Act II as a climax,” he says. “It’s an unapologetic departure from heartbreak — more confident, more expressive, and honestly, just me having fun in my music again.”
This new sound was brought to life with the help of heavyweight producers like Nick Bailey (Lana Del Rey, Maroon 5, Blake Shelton) and Yung Lan (Morgan Wallen, Lil Uzi Vert). Together, they helped Sam tap into the sounds he grew up loving — from pop to hip-hop to R&B — while never straying too far from his signature Southern storytelling.
“People might think I’m stepping away from country, but I’m really just expanding the lens,” Sam shares. “I’ve always had confidence in my voice, but now I’m finally matching that with confidence in who I am.”
And who Sam is — a proud queer artist from Paris, Tennessee, with roots that run deep and a creative spirit that’s impossible to box in — shines all throughout COUNTRYSTAR. On the project’s final track ‘HONKYTONKIN,’ Sam even playfully references his iconic lineage with the line “In a phantom wake, the ghost of the Opry,” offering a wink to the past while fully claiming his place in the present.
“I’ve always avoided leaning too hard into my family’s catalog,” he admits. “But ‘HONKYTONKIN’ is my way of honoring the past while fully owning who I am now.”
Despite carrying the Williams name, Sam has carved every step of his career on his own. His debut album Glasshouse Children earned rave reviews from key tastemakers, he’s performed on stages like the Grand Ole Opry and Country 2 Country Fest, and in February, he even penned the anthem for Cirque du Soleil and UMG Nashville’s Songblazers. Still, he knows that being a gay man in Nashville comes with its hurdles.
“There’s still a club in country music not everyone is allowed in,” Sam says. “I might be on a major label, but I’m the only solo male gay artist signed. That’s not lost on me — and it fuels me to keep going.”
For Sam, pushing boundaries isn’t a gimmick — it’s a necessity.
“I don’t write, sing, or dress like anyone else,” he says. “I grew up on Britney Spears and Justin Bieber and also Hank and Audrey. My music reflects all of that. It says, ‘I am country, and I am a star.’”
With Act II: COUNTRYSTAR arriving July 11, and summer shows (including CMA Fest and another Grand Ole Opry milestone) on the horizon, Sam is ready for his next era. And if there’s one thing he hopes people take away from this project?
“That even if it’s not your cup of tea… it’s me,” he says. “And I have no problem with that.”
