After a long battle, Scarlett Johansson and Disney have finally come to an agreement regarding the Black Widow lawsuit.
The star of the blockbuster film originally sued Walt Disney Studios when movie was released in theaters and on Disney+, as her agreement stated that the film was exclusive to a theatrical release. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 lockdown mandate that ordered theaters to shutter their doors until further notice, the flick was as also released on the distributor’s streaming platform, which forced Johansson to bring her issue to the Los Angeles Superior Court, stating that the movie release breached her contract and deprived her of potential earnings.
Although the exact terms of this new deal have not been revealed, it seems as though the star and Walt Disney Studios have come to an agreement they’re both happy with.
“I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” Johansson said in a statement released Thursday (September 30). “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.”
There is still no statement from Disney CEO Bob Chapek. But Walt Disney Studios Content Chairman, Alan Bergman, was quick to release a press statement saying that he’s pleased with the outcome of the agreement and he looks forward to future projects with the star.
“We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror,” he said.
The budget for the movie was around $200 Million. Since the release of the film in July, Black Widow has made $378.8 Million worldwide.
