Congrats are in order for Scotty James this evening!
The 22-year-old professional snowboarder snagged the coveted gold medal in the Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe competition at X Games Aspen 2017 — making this his first-ever gold medal at X Games.
Starting off with a massive backside air over 21-feet out of the pipe, the Aussie then took to the sky, launching consecutive 1080s before landing a clean frontside 900 and finishing off his first run with a stylish backside double cork 1260.
“It’s Australia Day back home! I’ve been watching X Games since the day I started snowboarding – this is surreal, there’s no other way to say it!” James said about winning his first gold medal in the SuperPipe.

Last year’s winner Matt Ladley took second on the final run of competition scoring a 80.00, while fellow Coloradan Taylor Gold took third with a 79.00. Shaun White, meanwhile, placed 11th, his worst finish since his rookie year in 2000. This was a major upset as this was White’s return to the SuperPipe after a marked absence in 2016.
Celeb Secrets caught up with Scotty moments after winning the gold medal for the Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe competition. In our interview, James talks about winning gold, how he chooses what tricks to perform in competition, and what’s next for the rising snowboarder. Check out the video below.
