Get ready to go back in time because Selena Gomez, Tanya Saracho, and Gabriela Revilla Lugo are bringing back the world of Sixteen Candles, but with a new twist.
According to Deadline, the half-hour series will be titled 15 Candles and is set to premiere on Peacock.
The reimagined story will follow four young Latinas starting high school as they overcome their feelings of invisibility while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind through the lens of the traditional female coming-of-age rite: the quinceañera.
The Rare Beauty founder is taking on the role of executive producer for her latest project. This won’t be Gomez’s first time in the producer seat, though, as she has taken on this role for shows such as 13 Reasons Why, Selena + Chef, and Only Murders In The Building.
Suppose you haven’t watched the original 1984 film Sixteen Candles – In that case, it follows Molly Ringwald’s character Samantha, a teen whose 16th birthday is overshadowed by her older sister’s upcoming wedding and is ultimately forgotten by her entire family.
There has yet to be any news on a possible release date or cast.
