It’s official… Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley have called it quits.
The pair have been quiet about their relationship since it began in 2020, but the news of their split comes just over a year after the NFL MVP announced at the 2021 NFL Honors broadcast on CBS that he and Woodley were engaged.
A source close to the former couple told PEOPLE that Woodley, 30, and Rodgers, 38, tried everything they could to make their relationship work.
“It was an amicable split; it just wasn’t working,” the source says. “They’re very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn’t surmount.”
Even with the split and calling off their engagement, the pair still remain in each other’s good books.
“They will remain friendly; there’s no bad blood and no drama. It just didn’t work out for them.”
News of their split comes after the pair started their long-distance relationship due to work schedules which Rodgers opened up about back in September 2021 saying that it was a busy time.
“I think it’s going to be a good thing,” Rodgers told Haute Living. “I mean, her work was shut down for an entire year, and she’s booked a number of projects. She enjoys working and her own routine, which I obviously enjoy, too.”
But it also comes after the football star’s backlash that he received regarding his vaccination status in November 2021, in which Woodley went to bat for her former fiancé saying that news outlets and fans were “grasping at straws” to find ways to attack the 38-year-old QB.
“Literally ya’ll need to calm the f**k down. This is straight up hilarious,” Woodley wrote on her Instagram story. “News outlets still grasping at straws to disparage Aaron. Finding random f**king men on the streets of L.A. and saying it’s him.”
Woodley and Rodgers have yet to make a comment on their split, but we at Celeb Secrets wish the pair nothing but the best in their futures.
