Shailene Woodley will co-star alongside Jack Whitehall, in the upcoming comedy, Robots! The film will be coming from Borat writer Anthony Hines.
The story is based on Robert Sheckley’s short story of the same title. Variety explains that the science fiction plot follows a womanizer and gold digger who are forced to team up and pursue robot doubles of themselves, who have, in turn, fallen in love and absconded together.
Hines will co-direct the movie with Casper Christensen (“Klown”). He expresses his excitement for the production by emphasizing that “at a time when comedies are needed more than ever, [he] couldn’t be more delighted than to have Shailene and Jack team up to play the leads in this movie.” Production on Robots will commence this August in New Mexico.
This is a change of pace for Woodley, best known for her work in dystopian Divergent and romance The Fault in Our Stars. Woodley’s credits also include The Descendants and HBO’s popular drama Big Little Lies.
She recently wrapped the lead role and served as a producer on the indie film Misanthrope and stars in the upcoming Netflix and Studio Canal feature film The Last Letter from Your Lover, which she also produced. Whitehall will appear in the upcoming Disney film Jungle Cruise and previously starred in the series Bad Education.
