Shakira is headed to the VMAs!
The global superstar is set to receive MTV’s Video Vanguard Award, presented by Toyota at the 2023 MTV VMAs next month, marking her first time on the VMAs stage in seventeen years when she accepts the award and performs a medley of her greatest hits.
The 4x VMAs winner, who took home her first Moon Person in 2000 for International Viewer’s Choice (Latin America North), received four nods this year for “Best Collaboration,” “Best Latin” (2x) and the much-coveted “Artist of the Year.” She joins a list of previous honorees that include Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott among others.

The Colombian born artist joins an already star-studded list of performers at the VMAs this year, as Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin and Stray Kids will also be making their way to the VMAs stage for unforgettable performances.
Earlier this month, the network announced its star-studded nominees, with Taylor Swift leading the pack with eight nominations, followed by SZA with six. Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith are also big nominees, as they are up for five Moon Person awards each, with BLACKPINK, Diddy and Shakira for four. The 2023 MTV VMAs will air LIVE from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Tuesday, September 12 @ 8PM ET/PT on MTV.
