From the studio that brought the iconic Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse, Sony is working on K-pop: Demon Hunters. A musical about a K-pop girl group who double as demon hunters trying to balance their everyday lives.

Variety reported that the film will be directed by Maggie Kang, who directed The Lego Ninjago Movie, and Chris Appelhans. Kang wants to dedicate the film to her Korean heritage, especially the K-pop music she grew up with.

Kang tells Variety, “Having been a fan of the genre since its beginnings in the ’90s, this film is my love letter to K-Pop and my Korean roots. It encompasses and celebrates everything K-Pop is – it’s the film I would want to see as a lifelong fan and I hope the millions of K-Pop fans out there in the world will feel the same.”

Co-director, Applehans, is also excited to celebrate the power of music through animated film. He also discusses the greatness that is K-pop. He says, “K-Pop is the greatest embodiment of this in our lifetime, and we’re really excited to honor and showcase that through the lens of animation.”

Joining these directors is Shrek producer, Aron Warner, and Raya and the Last Dragon’s production designer and art director, Mingjue Helen Chen and Ami Thompson.
