The 2015 Miss Universe Pageant will go down in world history.
What seemed to be like a dream come true for the nation of Colombia, host Steve Harvey made an honest mistake, leaving the producers, contestants, audience, and even winner in complete shock.
After announcing that Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutiérrez was named Miss Universe 2015, she was crowned by her predecessor Paulina Vega. There were hugs, cheers, flowers, a standing ovation and everything you expect from a happy moment. However, Steve crept on stage minutes later to make a shocking announcement.
“I have to apologize. The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach,” Harvey said. The camera panned to Miss USA and Miss Philippines while adding, “Miss Philippines take your first walk as Miss Universe.”
Talk about an awkward moment.
Trying to hold back tears, he continued to say the following: “Listen, folks. Let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. Its was my mistake, it was on the card. Please don’t hold it against the ladies.”
After mixed emotions from the crowd and a stunned Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines, Harvey ended his statement by saying, “We feel so badly, but still a great a great night.”
GREAT NIGHT? WHAT?!?!
“I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia,” the Family Feud host posted (then deleted) on Twitter minutes after the show. “This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”
Congratulations Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. What do you think about this? Sound off in the comments below!
