Last week’s announcement of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade has had many celebrities speaking out on the matter.
Stranger Things star Maya Hawke was the latest to speak on the issue in her recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hawke brought up to talk show host, Jimmy Fallon, that she asked her mom, Uma Thurman, for advice in regard to appearing on the show.
Hawke revealed that the conversation quickly turned to the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade. She explained that her mom wrote an essay a couple months back regarding the topic of abortion.
In the essay, Thurman talked about the abortion that she had at a young age. Hawke summarized the points made in the essay her mom wrote saying, “If [Thurman] hadn’t have had it, she wouldn’t have become the person that she’d become and I wouldn’t exist and how both my parents’ lives would’ve been totally derailed if she hadn’t had access to safe and legal healthcare – fundamental healthcare.”
Hawke continued to share, “I just wanted to say that like, you know, f*** the Supreme Court.” Which the crowd seemed to agree with as they erupted in cheers.
She then asked Fallon if she could say “F**k the Supreme Court”, and when given the okay by Fallon, Hawke repeated the saying. Hawke also encouraged everyone to keep fighting just like their grandmothers did in the past and continued on with the interview.
