The Proud Family is back, baby!
Earlier today (January 25), Disney+ revealed a first look at The Proud Family reboot, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which is expected to air on the streaming platform beginning February 23, 2022.
With new episodes airing every Wednesday, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will pick up the story of its central character, Penny Proud, and include her madcap family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). Of course, it would not be “The Proud Family” without Penny’s loyal crew Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez and Zoey Howzer, among others.
Reprising their roles are Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, JoMarie Payton as Suga Mama, Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, and Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer. The Boulevardez family is also back with Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez, Carlos Mencia as Feliz Boulevardez, Maria Canals-Barrera as Sunset Boulevardez, and Alvaro Gutierrez as Papi.
Although the characters look the same as they did in the early 2000’s, they have slightly changed. In the series, we will see Penny Proud’s journey of becoming a young lady and the challenges she faces with her dad, Oscar Proud as he has to accept she is growing up.
Also returning from the Disney Television Animation original is executive producer Bruce W. Smith (“The Princess and the Frog”) and Ralph Farquhar (“Moesha”) and Calvin Brown Jr. (“Moesha”) as co-executive producer. Joining them as the producer is Jan Hirota (“Big Hero 6”) and as art director Eastwood Wong (“Carmen Sandiego”).
