Whenever you mix sports and charity, you know its bound to be a good night!
Last Tuesday (July 17), the stars came out to UCLA Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles for the $50K Charity Challenge Celebrity Basketball Game, which raised money and awareness for multiple charities in addition to the host beneficiary, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend’s WHO Cares initiative Teen Cancer America.
“I’m big on giving back, especially when it comes to children,” head coach and NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson told Celeb Secrets before the game. “My daughter was in the hospital for almost two years, so I know what its like as a parent to sit there hoping to God that it gets well. Anything that involves giving back, I’m all for it.”
The players were divided up into two teams lead by Dickerson and Andre Drummond (NBA Detroit Pistons), and each had a star-studded roster including Floyd Mayweather, Lindsay Arnold, Miles Brown, Brittney Elena, Jena Frumes, Rampage Jackson, Rashad Jennings, Natalie Eva Marie, Brandon Marshall, NBA Young Boy, Terrell Owens, Shiggy, Lisa Maria Varon, Nick Viall, Colton Underwood, and Kendra Wilkinson.
For half time, Tyga, Iggy Azalea and Saweetie hit the floor for head-turning performances. In addition to the performances, a 3-Point and Free Throw Contest made its way to the court, where celebrity participants played for the charity of their choice to win $5,000 for their charity. Jack McClinton (CEO of Active Dreamers) won the 3-Point Contest and there was a three-way tie between Lindsay Arnold (Dancing with the Stars), Colton Underwood (NFL/The Bachelorette) and Brittney Elena (MTV’s Wild N Out) for the Free Throw Contest.
After a full game filled with baskets and passes, Eric Dickerson’s team, sponsored by Boom Cups, defeated Andre Drummond’s team (playing for the Andre Drummond Philanthropic Fund), sponsored by Charity Bids, to win the $30,000 for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation. The final score was 71-64.
