New York Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay has paused his duties after catching COVID-19.
The 61-year-old announcer and ESPN radio host announced on Wednesday, March 30, that he had tested positive for the virus “after avoiding COVID for two years”. The news comes after fans of his radio show ‘The Michael Kay Show’, which is also telecasted on the YES Network, noticed he was absent from the show. It also serves as a stark reminder that this pandemic is not over yet.
Kay was previously in Tampa, Florida, covering the Yankees’ spring training games at George M. Steinbrenner Field. There, he caught COVID-19 and has since been isolating and quarantining. ‘The Michael Kay Show’ co-hosts Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg have taken over the show for the time being.
Well, after avoiding Covid for two years, all the while being extra careful, I have tested positive. Feel like I have a bad cold now and hoping this is as bad as it gets. Wanted to post this so you know why I am not on @TMKSESPN @TMKSonYES today. Stay safe everyone.

Kay stated that his current symptoms feel as if he has “a bad cold” and that he is hoping it does not get any worse. Oddly enough, his co-host Don La Greca just recently recovered from COVID-19 after catching it last month and ending up in the hospital.
On April 10, Kay is set to co-host with Alex Rodriguez in ESPN’s ‘KayRod’ cast, which will be an alternate presentation for Sunday Night Baseball games in 2022. Now, Kay’s bout with COVID puts that debut in jeopardy, although it is entirely possible (and we certainly hope is the case) that Kay fully recovers by that point.
