Sha’Carri Richardson is our kind of girl!
The sprinter has become a household name in the past week after dominating in the women’s 100-meter at the trials. The Dallas native raced to first place with a time of 10.86 seconds, making her the nation’s fastest woman.
But it isn’t only her talent that won over the hearts of many — it’s her unapologetic attitude and touching story.
The 5’1 sprinter was on fire competing with orange hair, bold lashes and long nails picked out by her girlfriend. This type of attire is often frowned upon in track and field, but it’s clear that it didn’t have any effect on her performance.
After competing, Richardson announced that her mother passed away less than two weeks ago. At the pinnacle of her track career, Richardson ran to embrace her grandmother after winning her race, a woman she is eternally grateful for.
“I’m still here. Last week, finding out my biological mother passed away, and I’m still choosing to pursue my dreams, still coming out here, still here to make the family that I do have on this Earth proud,” she said. “And the fact that nobody knows what I go through. Everybody has struggles, and I understand that, but y’all see me on this track, and y’all see the poker face I put on. But nobody but them and my coach knows what I go through on a day-to-day basis.”
