Eddie Murphy Makes Fun of His Own Career – 2020

Eddie Murphy received the recognition he deserved at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards. The talented performer was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by his comic friend and co-star Keegan-Michael Key in Dolemite Is My Name. Once the well-known actor took center stage he delivered a self-deprecating speech.

“I’ve been making movies, next year, for 40 years,” Murphy said. “I’ve been doing it for a minute now, and being able to make a living as an actor is a privilege and a blessing, and to make your living making people laugh – you’re the luckiest person on earth to be able to do that.”

He continued sharing his career journey with the audience by listing off some crazy roles he played throughout the years. “I’ve played everything: a cop, a robber, a doctor, different ethnicities, animals,” he adds. “I’ve been a donkey. I’ve even played a spaceship once. When young actors come up to me on the streets and say, ‘Do you have any advice?’, I say, ‘never play a spaceship.”
