Kristen Bell Delivers Moving #SeeHer Speech – 2020

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress received the #SeeHer award which “recognizes a woman who embodies the values set forth by the SeeHer movement, to push boundaries on changing stereotypes and acknowledge the importance of authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment landscape,” the SeeHer organization said in a statement.

At the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards, Ted Danson who stars alongside Bell in NBC’s The Good Place presented the #SeeHer award. During the kind introduction, he highlighted some of Bell’s roles on the big screen, such as Frozen, Veronica MarsCheersand more. However, before inviting her up on stage, he said “She’s become a voice of people who feel voiceless.”

Bell dressed to the nines in a fierce green power jump-suit continued the conversation and emphasized the meaning behind being a fearless woman in a complicated world. “Sometimes I do get asked, what does it mean to be a woman? And I respond always by asking them to repeat the question so I can buy more time because it’s a really, really hard question,” the actress said during her speech. “It is just about giving yourself permission to be the things that you really are, which seems very easy but it is not because women have been conditioned to fit into boxes.”

The actress quickly received praise for her touching speech about women empowerment and acceptance.
