A Storm of Faith and Scandal, “Kingdom Business” Season 2 Delivers Salacious Drama and Electrifying Performances

Kingdom Business is officially back for a second season on BET+, and it’s filled with salacious drama and electrifying performances.

The gripping premiere episode expertly navigates the intersection of faith, scandal, and raw human emotion. Picking up from where season one left off, season two thrusts the viewer into the aftermath of Calvin’s scandalous deeds, leaving the Jordan family in turmoil. Denita (played by Yolanda Adams), caught between life and death, finds her parents stepping into a power vacuum, adding a gripping twist to the family dynamics. Denita’s precarious state adds a poignant dimension, highlighting the complexities of faith in times of crisis.

Rbel, portrayed by the talented Serayah, faces her own crossroads, returning to her past life amidst the chaos. This narrative arc is brilliantly underscored by what is touted as “this season’s most powerful song” according to executive producer Dr. Holly Carter, who spoke with Celeb Secrets on the red carpet ahead the series’ screening in Los Angeles last week, as it showcases Serayah’s incredible vocal talent. BET+’s Market Strategist Kelsey Matthews also agrees, saying that this season “there is a magical moment with [Rbel] and a studio that is to die for. Her vocals are incredible — out of this world.”

BET+ has crafted a show that is both “salacious and sanctified,” as said by both executive producers Michael van Dyck and Dr. Holly Carter, a rare blend that resonates with a diverse audience.

Executive producer Michael van Dyck tells Celeb Secrets, “What I love about ‘Kingdom Business,’ is not just the BET executives who put it on the air, the writers, the directors, my executive producing partners, but really the crew as well is family. Behind-the-scenes is really a family, and it’s more of a family than most of us have in our real lives so I think that’s the key.”

Dr. Carter, in particular, emphasizes the series’ commitment to authentically representing faith and gospel culture. The show masterfully balances its edgy narrative with its core of gospel culture, ensuring a relatable and authentic experience for its viewers. Van Dyck tells Celeb Secrets, “It’s all so inspiring and redemptive.”

According to Matthews, this synergy of faith, drama, and music is precisely what makes Kingdom Business a unique and compelling watch. Dr. Carter tells us she hopes the show impacts and inspires the conversation around faith in the music industry by “bringing up real issues in the church, and bringing up real issues around families of faith and color.”

In essence, the season premiere of Kingdom Business promises a journey of redemption, power struggles, and soulful music. The first episode sets an ambitious tone for the season, promising viewers a blend of intrigue and inspiration, wrapped in a soundtrack that resonates long after the credits roll brought to you from the creative musical geniuses Warryn Campbell and Kirk Franklin.

Dr. Carter even gave us a little taste of what’s to come this season by telling us that “someone’s mother comes to visit, and that mother is a trip,” so we’re ready to see how dramatic and exhilarating season two will really be.
