The rings are back. Although technically, this is the first time they’ve surfaced.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is set during the second age, thousands of years before the theatrical The Lord of the Rings movies.
The prequel series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels take fans back to the time period where the “creation” of the rings takes place.
“There’s a lot of stuff that happens in the second age,” Cynthia Addai-Robinson told Celeb Secrets reporter Blakely McHugh at Entertainment Weekly’s 2022 San Diego Comic Con Bash in July. “[There are] a lot of worlds that may be familiar to some, worlds that are new and never been depicted on screen.”
Addai-Robinson, 37, is calling it “familiar but different.”
The prequel has been in the works since 2019. Addai-Robinson, who plays Queen Regent Míriel in the TV series, says pre-production started at the end of 2019 and production wrapped in July 2021.
The cast filmed the show in New Zealand during the peak of the pandemic. The Accountant actress, says because of their “heightened” experience– being on lockdown in a foreign country– they created something that “comes from the heart.”
“I’ve just met an incredible group of people that I feel like I am connected to for life,” Addai-Robsinson shared. “It’s really special and I’m just really proud to be part of it.”
After production wrapped, it took over a year for the post production process. As difficult as it was to wait for the show’s release date, it was even harder keeping the project from her family.
The actress says she had to keep the show a “secret” from her family and friends until it was officially announced by Amazon Prime. She says after keeping the news from her family and friends for approximately two years, she’s excited to watch the show with them.
“I know, it’s outrageous, but it’s worth it. It’s for a reason. You want to protect things, I know people are hungry for information but sometimes good things come to those who wait.”
Fortunately the wait is over. The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is out on Prime Video right now and can be binged here.
