The energy in Buttermilk Mountain was absolutely electric Saturday night (January 25) as a packed crowd witnessed a high-flying, edge-of-your-seat battle in the Monster Energy Men’s Ski SuperPipe at X Games Aspen 2025.
Under the bright lights, hometown hero Alex Ferreira put on a show, soaring to a 92.00 and securing silver—his eighth career X Games medal — in a nail-biting showdown with slopestyle-turned-pipe phenom Nick Goepper.
At 30, Ferreira remains a force to be reckoned with, proving that experience, resilience, and sheer talent still reign supreme. But the night belonged to Goepper, who clinched gold with a 92.66, solidifying his meteoric rise in the pipe scene after making the unprecedented switch from slopestyle in 2023.
Despite a challenging week of training, Ferreira delivered when it mattered most. “I’m elated. This is my eighth one and I am a happy guy, that’s for sure,” he told Celeb Secrets just moments after stepping off the podium. “Honestly, I had pretty poor training all week, so to pull it together and end up on the podium, healthy, happy — what more could you ask for?”

The new format this year upped the pressure, with riders having to qualify before making it to the finals. “Certainly there’s more pressure because there’s a qualifier, right? Usually, we just show up and go straight to finals. No one’s really sleeping the night before, or at least I’m not,” Ferreira admitted with a laugh.
Despite the shake-up, Ferreira leaned on his experience and focused on staying healthy while delivering the best performance possible.
“Usually everyone has what they wanna do laid out months or weeks in advance,” he said. “I just came out and I wanted to stay healthy, do my best, and kill it.”

Ferreira came out firing in the final, throwing down a rightside 1620 with an opposite tail grab on his last hit to score a 92.00, igniting the Aspen crowd with his signature pole twirl at the end. But Goepper, who has been on a rapid rise in pipe, edged him out by just 0.66 points, proving his transition from slopestyle was no fluke.
Still, Ferreira embraced the moment, sharing the podium with Goepper (gold) and Hunter Hess (bronze). “Honestly, I’m lucky because I’m part of a great team. The U.S. Ski Team is amazing. I’ve got great teammates, the camaraderie is high, and we have a lot of fun together. To be on the podium with those guys is an honor.”

As for what’s next? The Aspen Grand Prix is just around the corner, followed by a World Cup event and World Championships in Switzerland. With his sights set on more hardware, there’s no doubt Ferreira will be bringing the same passion and energy that have made him a fan favorite for years.
Even with eight X Games medals under his belt, Ferreira continues to push the limits. “As Tony Robbins says, ‘If you’re not growing, you’re dying.’ I get bored pretty quick, so I like to keep it moving and keep it racing.”
For now, though, the hometown hero can celebrate another X Games medal — adding to a legacy that continues to grow, one gravity-defying run at a time.
