Alex Ferreira Says Being Back On Top at Ski SuperPipe at X Games Aspen is “The Sweetest Redemption” (Exclusive)

Alex Ferreira is back on top!

After taking a gnarly crash during last year’s X Games, the 29-year-old professional skier snagged the coveted gold medal at Chipotle Men’s Ski SuperPipe competition on Sunday (January 28) during X Games Aspen 2024 in Aspen, CO. The big win marked Alex’s first time back on the podium since his mind-blowing win four years ago.

“It was definitely a little nerve-wracking, but I did my absolute best and came out on top and what more can you ask for,” Alex told Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder moments after his big win at the base of the SuperPipe. “I’ve got a beautiful fan base, wonderful family and wonderful friends. I’m just the most happy guy in the world right now.”

Determined to dazzle his hometown with an unforgettable performance, Ferreira delivered an impressive run from the moment he dropped into the SuperPipe for his first run. To put a stamp on his win, he launched 17 feet and 6 inches out of the pipe, threw four-way double cork variations and the hardest trick of the night – a crowd-pleasing 1620 – in what was called the most technical run ever seen at an X Games Ski SuperPipe competition.

“This [medal] is the absolute dream. I’ve been waiting a year thinking about it every single night because I fell really hard last year,” he added. “To come back and win was the sweetest redemption I could have ever imagined… I’m so grateful.”

X Games Aspen 2024 Day 3 Recap – January 28, 2024

The 29-year-old has been absolutely unstoppable this season, as he earned gold medal finishes in the first two FIS World Cup pipe competitions this year with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. When asked what ignites the fire for him to be the best athlete he can in the pipe, Alex he wants to continue to win medals for the younger generation he inspires.

“The kids fire me up. They’re just so happy. I was here last night and they were like ‘win for us,'” he revealed. “It was the coolest thing… I was like, ‘alright. I’m winning for you guys’ and it happened.”

Rounding out the podium was New Zealand’s Nico Porteous in the silver medal position, who took a unique and playful approach in his runs, carving back up the same side of the pipe for a never-been-done trick to challenge the podium and earn extra creativity points. USA’s Hunter Hess took the bronze.
