What better place to win an X Games gold medal then in your hometown, surrounded by dozens of your closest friends and family? Absolutely nothing, and this was Aspen native Alex Ferreira‘s reality at the Great Clips Men’s Ski SuperPipe competition during X Games Aspen 2020 on Sunday night (January 26) in Aspen, Colorado.
A sizable crowd filled the bottom of the SuperPipe on Sunday, roaring with energy each time Alex took to the pipe. With a score of 92.66 on third run, Ferreira took the winning position and was the first Aspen local to win back-to-back golds at the annual games held at the base of Buttermilk Mountain.
When catching up with Alex after the win, the 25-year-old skier could not be sweeter.
“You know I used to sneak out in middle school and I used to get to this contest just to catch a glimpse at the pros, and to be able to be in it, and no less win it, I’m like on cloud nine,” Ferreira tells Celeb Secrets at the base of the SuperPipe.
Alex is focused on the importance of having family and friends support him and gave us a bit of insight into what’s next.
“I’m going to the Dew Tour in two weeks,” he said. “I’m going to do my best and hope to defend my medal there as well.”
