Andrew Garfield Says He Will Not Be in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”

Rumors are rampant for Sony and Marvel’s third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland as the titular character, and the most exciting one has been that both former live-action Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would return.

However, Garfield has now crushed our hopes of a triple Spider-Man appearance on-screen. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield said, “I did not get a call. Listen, I would have gotten a call by now, that’s all I’m saying.”

Though, he does not seem opposed to rejoining the superhero universe.

“I don’t want to rule anything out. Maybe they want to call me,” he continued. “Maybe they’re going to call me and say, ‘Hey, people want this.’”

And yes, I think we can all agree that we want that.

Garfield was part of the Spider-Man franchise starring as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Both films co-starred Emma Stone and the sequel featured Jamie Foxx as Electro – a role that he will be reprising in the upcoming No Way Home.

Maguire was the original big screen Spider-Man starring in Sam Raimi’s trilogy from 2002 to 2007. While fans consistently argue on which actor is the best Spider-Man, there is typically universal acclaim that Maguire’s Spider-Man 2 foe Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) is the best of the villains. Molina will also reprise his role in No Way Home.

This is not the first time an actor from a different Spider-Man series will join one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans were shocked – you could literally hear gasps and cheers in theaters – when J. K. Simmons reappeared in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home as Daily Bugle host J. Jonah Jameson after playing the character in all three of the original films.

One may remember (spoiler alert!) that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio revealed Spider-Man to be Peter Parker in that scene, which set up a cliffhanger for the third film.

While we still know nothing about whether or not Maguire will actually appear, let’s hope that Garfield just has not gotten that call yet.
