4 More Categories Have Been Revealed for 2024 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift Still Stays On Top

With less than two weeks until the big day, four more categories have been added to the list of awards set to be given at the 2024 MTV VMAs.

The latest additions, which will find this year’s “Song of Summer,” presented by Hilton, “Best Group,” and all-new “VMAs Most Iconic Performance” and “Best Trending Video,” pop superstar Taylor Swift still holds the records for the most nominations with twelve this year, followed closely by Post Malone (11) and Eminem (8). Artists like Ariana Grande, host Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter and SZA also added nods to their name today (August 30), giving them another chance to add a moon person to their collection. With voting only available on MTV’s Instagram Story, fans will be able to choose their favorites for the following:

Best Trending Video – Fans will vote for the newly added category that celebrates the artist’s videos and/or songs inspired fandoms to generate tremendous content related to the video and/or song starting 9/2 at @ 11 AM ET on @MTV Instagram Story (1 round, tap to vote); closes 9/3 @ 11 AM ET. The nominees are:

VMAs Most Iconic Performance – 24 hours of fan voting for the new category that celebrates some of the most memorable “VMAs” performances from the history of the show begins Tuesday, 9/10 at 11 am ET on @MTV Instagram Story (1 Round, tap to vote); concludes 9/11 @ 11 AM ET. The nominees are:

• Beyoncé – “Love on Top”
• Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, Missy Elliot – “Like a Virgin” & “Hollywood”
• Eminem – “Real Slim Shady” & “The Way I Am”
• Katy Perry – “Roar”
• Lady Gaga – “Paparazzi”

While voting was supposed to end today, MTV also announced a “Bonus Week” of Voting across general categories; now closing September 6 at 6 pm ET. Fans vote for their favorites across 15 gender-neutral categories, including the highly-coveted “Video of the Year,” presented by Burger King®, by visiting vote.mtv.com thanks to The General Insurance®. Voting for “Best New Artist,” Presented by DraftKings® will remain active into show.

A ton of celebs are expected to make their way to New York on September 11th for the MTV VMAs, including previously announced performers Anitta, Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Halsey, KAROL G, LL COOL J Lenny Kravitz, LISA, Rauw Alejandro, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes and Katy Perry, who will also receive this year’s Video Vanguard Award.

Hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, the 2024 MTV VMAs will air LIVE from the UBS Arena in New York on Wednesday, September 11th @ 8PM ET/PT on MTV.
