Sabrina Carpenter has one her first-ever VMA!
After blessing the crowd with a medley of songs like “Please Please Please,” “Taste” and “Espresso,” the 25-year-old took home her very first, well-deserved moon person tonight (September 11th), earning the dub for Song of the Year thanks to her single “Espresso” at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
The songstress expressed her thanks and love to her team who makes it all possible, songwriters Steph Jones, Amy Allen and Julian Bunetta, her family, and even her “cats and dogs that are at home watching.”
“I’ve literally never won one of these. This is really special. The first people I want to thank are the fans,” she said before joking, “If you clap after everything I say they’re gonna, they’re gonna call me off the stage, so one second.”
“I just want to say you guys are the reason that I get to do what I love, but also the reason that we get to have so much fun and share music with each other. And I just feel so great, but I have the best truly, the best fans. That sounds cheesy, but I love you. Thank you,” she continued.
Carpenter concluded with her most talked about, cheeky lyric, “And thank you to that’s that me espresso.”
“Espresso” was the first single off her album, Short n’ Sweet, which came out later last month. The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is currently Billboard’s No. 1 Global Song of the Summer followed by “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “Not Like Us” Kendrick Lamar and more. The Global 200 ranks songs all around the world based on streaming and sales activity and “Espresso” raced to the top.
Sabrina was nominated for six awards at the VMAs this year, including Artist of the Year, Best Pop Song and Song of the Summer. Last year, she performed a mash-up of her two songs “Nonsense” and “Feather” on the 2023 MTV VMAs red carpet.
