We’re only a few minutes into the 2024 MTV VMAs, and to no surprise, Taylor Swift is already winning.
The 34-year-old superstar won the very first moon person of the night on Wednesday (September 11) for Best Collaboration on the video for her song “Fortnight” with Post Malone.
Before the star sent her love and thank-yous out, she took the time to honor all the lives that were lost in the tragic terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
She says, “Waking up this morning in New York on Sept. 11, I’ve just been thinking about what happened 23 years ago, everyone who lost a loved one and everyone that we lost. And that is the most important thing about today and everything that happens tonight falls behind that.”
The singer then went on to thank everybody who played a part in the song and then handed the mic to Malone dubbing him as “everyone in music’s favorite person to collaborate.”
She continued, “You are so ridiculously talented, you are so versatile, and you are the most down-to-earth person. Honestly, so unfailing polite. It has taken me forever to get him to stop calling me ma’am.”
Malone then called Swift “one of the most kind and talented people I’ve ever had the honor of knowing.”
“Just the amount of work and care and love that she puts into everything that she does… I watched her tied up to the operating thing in the music video and she was directing the music video from there. It was pretty bad ass.”
“Fortnight,” the lead single of Swift latest release The Tortured Poets Department, has a shot at winning 7 more moon person awards tonight, as its nominated for “Video of the Year, Presented by Burger King,” “Song of the Year,” “Best Direction,” “Best Cinematography,” “Best Editing,” “Best Visual Effects,” “Best Direction,” and “Song of the Summer.” Taylor is up for “Artist of the Year,” “Best Pop,” and “VMAs Most Iconic Performance,” while Post was nominated twice in the “Best Collaboration” and “Song of the Summer” category for his song “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.
