2024 MTV VMAs: What You Need to Know Before Watching the Big Show

IT’S TIME Y’ALL — THE VMAs ARE HAPPENING IN JUST A FEW HOURS! 

The 2024 MTV VMAs are taking over Long Island this evening, bringing all of our favorite music industry icons and up-and-comers together for a can’t-miss show at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.

While the VMAs are always iconic, this year’s will really have everyone talking for many reasons. From nominees and performances to a new hosting format and special guests, this year’s show is about to turn heads for all the right reasons. Plus, artists like Taylor Swift, Post Malone and Eminem are up for a ton of hardware this evening, Megan Thee Stallion will make hot girl history by both hosting and performing at the big showand Chappell Roan will make her award show debut for an unforgettable performance.

When are the 2024 MTV VMAs?

The 2024 MTV VMAs air TONIGHT, September 11th @ 8PM ET across MTV’s global footprint, including BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Nick at Nite, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, VH1, and Univision, with the official 2024 “VMAs” Pre-Show airing on Wednesday, September 11th at 6:30pm ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, CMT, and Logo.

Where can you watch the show?

As we just mentioned, you can watch the 2024 MTV VMAs LIVE on MTV beginning at 8PM ET. It will also simulcast across MTV’s global footprint of linear and digital platforms.

Will there be a red carpet? 

This year’s red carpet is expected to bring out all of our favorite celebs, and there’s no doubt that they’ll deliver iconic looks when they pose for photos before going into the 2024 MTV VMAs.

This year, the VMAs pre-show will be hosted by Nessa, Dometi Pongo and Kevan Kenney and will feature a special performance by LE SSERAFIM.

Fans can get in on the action when by tuning into the special event beginning at 6:30PM – 8:00PM ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, CMT, and Logo.

Who is nominated? 

There are gender-neutral categories at the VMAs, and to no surprise, Taylor Swift leads the pack with twelve chances to win a moon person this year! Post Malone isn’t too far with eleven nominations, with show opener Eminem racking up eight.

Additionally, MTV recently unveiled the VMA nominees in the social categories for 2024 earlier this week, which includes “Song of Summer,” presented by Hilton, “Best Group,” and all-new “VMAs Most Iconic Performance” and “Best Trending Video.”

Voting already went down on @MTV‘s Instagram Stories for these categories, however, fans can still cast their vote for “Most Iconic Performance” and “Best New Artist,” Presented by DraftKings® as well as see if their favorite won by watching both the pre-show and main event later this evening.

Best Trending Video – Fans will vote for the newly added category that celebrates the artist’s videos and/or songs inspired fandoms to generate tremendous content related to the video and/or song starting 9/2 at @ 11 AM ET on @MTV Instagram Story (1 round, tap to vote); closes 9/3 @ 11 AM ET. The nominees are:

What about the performers?

The VMAs are known for putting on some of the biggest and buzzworthy performances in award show history, and this year will be no different. Later tonight, viewers will see Eminem, who is set to open the show, host Megan Thee Stallion, Anitta, Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Halsey, KAROL G, LL COOL J Lenny Kravitz, LISA, Rauw Alejandro, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes and Katy Perry all take the stage throughout the three-hour telecast, with performances from Jessie Murph and Teddy Swims on the Extended Play Stage Presented by Doritos®.

Big celebs are headed to Long Island to present hardware to this year’s nominees, including Addison Rae, Alessandra Ambrosio, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Big Sean, Busta Rhymes, Carson Daly, Cyndi Lauper, Damiano David (Måneskin), DANNA, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Flavor Flav, French Montana, Halle Bailey, Jordan Chiles, Lil Nas X, Miranda Lambert, Naomi Scott, Paris Hilton, Suki Waterhouse, Thalía and Tinashe.

Is there a host?

This year, MTV will once again break boundaries — and make hot girl history — at the VMAs by giving Megan Thee Stallion the mic to help deliver some of the biggest moments of the night to fans inside the arena and viewers watching at home

What else do I need to know?

Katy Perry will be awarded the Video Vanguard Award during the live telecast, as she is confirmed to perform her biggest hits on the VMAs stage.
