Sabrina Carpenter Dazzles in White and Makes Out with an Alien Onstage During 2024 MTV VMAs Main Stage Performance Debut – Watch

This entry is part 13 of 21 in the series 2024 MTV VMAs

Sabrina Carpenter continues to show that she’s pop music’s it girl.

The 25-year-old singer officially made her way to the main stage for an unforgettable performance at the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday (September 11), which was held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY after kicking off last year’s ceremony with a performance at the pre-show.

After being introduced by another pop legend, Cyndi Lauper, Carpenter kicked things off by floating on a diamond singing “Please Please Please” in a sparkly ensemble that was literally out of this world. She was then lowered onto stage to transition into the next song, however, she made a tribute to the princess of pop before singing her smash hit “Taste” by incorporating the spoken interlude from Britney Spears’ classic “Oops!… I Did It Again” in the background.

Just like Britney did in the music video back in the early 2000, Sabrina discovered an astronaut onstage. Putting her own twist on things, Sabrina’s moment also featured an alien who she made out with during her set. She wrapped things up by singing the song of the summer, “Espresso,” with dancing astronauts to a packed house that were on their feet dancing to the catchy tune.

It’s safe to say that Sabrina Carpenter has been on an absolute roll since the overly infectious tongue-in-cheek single dropped in April. The “Nonsense” singer found herself shattering records with her catchy songs, performing at festivals like Coachella and Outside Lands and even making headlines from appearances on major TV programs like SNL among others.

The 2024 MTV VMAs were also a big deal for Sabrina for many reasons, as she was up for six nominations, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Espresso,” Best Pop Artist, Best Direction and Best Art Direction for “Please Please Please” and Best Editing for “Espresso.” The night also marked her first time performing on the main stage.

Sabrina just released her latest project, Short n’ Sweet, last month, which became her first No. 1 album of her career on the Billboard 200 chart. “Please Please Please,” “Espresso” and “Taste” have also all made it to the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The hype for the collection is still going strong as the music video for “Taste” recently emerged, featuring Sabrina and actress Jenna Ortega not only fighting, but also sharing a kiss. Even Travis Scott’s label Cactus Jack Records is disputing her record beating his record to #1. That’s when you know you’ve made it, right?
