Apple TV+ Celebrates Global Premiere of “They Call Me Magic” With Red Carpet Event

On April 14, Apple TV+ celebrated the global premiere of their new original docuseries, They Call Me Magic. The event took place at The Village Regency Theatre in Los Angeles, and featured a slew of celebrity guests!

Talent walking the red carpet included NBA legend and star of the docuseries Magic Johnson, along with his family (Cookie JohnsonAndre JohnsonEJ Johnson, & Elisa Johnson), series contributors Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Samuel L. Jackson (“The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey”), Dwyane Wade, Jerry West, and Stephen A. Smith.

Additional attendees at the event included Patricia Arquette (“Severance”), Gabrielle Union (“Truth Be Told”), Don Cheadle (“The Big Cigar”)Courtney B. Vance, Stevie Wonder, and Tina Knowles-Lawson. The four-part documentary event of “They Call Me Magic” will premiere globally Friday, April 22, 2022, on Apple TV+.

The new series will offer a glimpse into the incredible real-life story of Magic Johnson, who left his mark on history through his work, both on and off the court, and continues to impact our culture today. The docuseries will explore Johnson’s remarkable journey from being the face of the Los Angeles Lakers to changing the conversation around HIV, and transforming into a successful entrepreneur and community activist.

From his humble beginnings in Lansing, Michigan to becoming the global force he is today, “They Call Me Magic” charts the cinematic life of one of the biggest cultural icons of our era. The series is directed by Rick Famuyiwa, with cinematographer Rachel Morrison (“Black Panther”). “They Call Me Magic” is produced for Apple by New Slate Ventures, XTR and Delirio Films, in association with h.wood Media.

The series is executive produced by Jordan Fudge, Jeremy Allen, Bryn Mooser, Christina McLarty Arquette, Rafael Marmor, Christopher Leggett, John Terzian, Brian Toll, Rick Famuyiwa and Christina Francis; co-executive produced by Zoë Morrison, David Arquette, Kathryn Everett and produced by Andre Cleveland.
