Ariana Grande Returns to SNL to Celebrate 50 Years – Watch the Best Moments

Ariana Grande is the Swiss Army knife of pop culture; singing, comedy, acting… is there anything she can’t do?

On Saturday (October 12), SNL welcomed back two pop music veterans for a night of comedy and music.

Grande has taken a break from promoting her upcoming musical movie, Wicked, taking to the New York City stage to side-splitting impressions of Jennifer Coolidge and Celine Dion

Grande’s opening monologue garnered plenty of laughs from the audience, as she covered her casting as Glinda in Wicked, her singing impressions of fellow musicians, insisting that she wouldn’t play into those tropes all through a Broadway-esque number.

It was Grande’s third time hosting SNL, the first time since 2016. Throughout the show, played the love interest for a “hotel detective,” sang in a music video about the smell of her best friend’s house, even joining SNL alumni Andy Samberg and Maya Rudolph for a skit about a high-pitched singing Italian boy.

One of the stand-out sketches from Saturday night was titled: “Bridesmaid Speech” and starred Grande as the sister of a bride, recruiting the bridesmaids to sing a song about cheating on her new husband. Grande stars alongside Sarah Sherman, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Chloe Fineman, singing a parody of Sabrina Carpenter‘s”Espresso.”

With Grande to provide the laughs, the music was left up to former Fleetwood Mac frontwoman and pop icon Stevie Nicks. The soaring singer closed out the evening performing a timeless hit, “Edge of Seventeen” and a new track, “The Lighthouse.”

From the performance of her first solo chart-topping hit, its undeniable that Nicks can still belt like the best of them. With “The Lighthouse,” Nicks tapped into her ability to create ominous, musical tension akin to her work on the Fleetwood Mac track, “The Chain.” The song’s lyrics and message function as a call-to-action for women’s rights, singing, “Don’t let them take your power, Don’t leave it alone in the final hours…”
