Bad Bunny is the First Latino to Star in Sony’s Marvel Universe as “El Muerto”

Bad Bunny seems to like life as a villain, especially when he leads the film as one.

Acting has officially become part of the 28-year-old’s list of talents. The rapper, singer, record producer, professional wrestler, and actor has already appeared in F9, Tezz, and the latest film, Bullet Train.

He is set to bring El Muerto to life as he joins Sony Pictures’ Marvel Universe in the standalone movie. The film will star a Puerto Rican artist and will have the same name as the title of the film. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, will be the first Latino lead in a Marvel superhero film.

It is based on a masked wrestler, of which Bad Bunny already has experience in wrestling but unlike El Muerto, he doesn’t inherit his powers from his mystical masks.

Sony Pictures confirmed the news during the CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday. They shared the news with fans via the tweet below:

Sanford Pantich joined Bad Bunny on the stage of CinemaCon to confirm the news with fans. He is the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group president and according to Entertainment Tonight, he said, “Sometimes we get lucky with the perfect casting, and I think that’s what we’ve got here.”

Bad Bunny nodded in agreement and added, “I love wrestling, I’m a pro wrestler, I don’t know if you know.”

“This is why I love this character. I think it’s the perfect role, to me. It will be epic,” Benito added.

El Muerto will come out exclusively in theatres on Jan. 12, 2024.
