The Cincinnati Bengals have made it clear that they’ve put their Super Bowl LVI loss behind them, and are confident that they have what it takes to contend again next season.
After giving up a 20-16 lead to the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, and allowing the Rams to win the game 23-20, the Bengals have already made quite a bit of noise this offseason (which is only three days old thus far). The team announced on Wednesday that they’ve extended head coach Zac Taylor through 2026.

Taylor, who became the second-youngest head coach to ever manage in a Super Bowl at age 38 (only beaten by rival Rams coach Sean McVay, who is 36), had his contract extended on Wednesday through the 2026 season. This is a clear indication that the Bengals believe that Taylor, who replaced Marvin Lewis in 2019, is the one who will lead them to the promised land that is a Super Bowl win.
The Bengals also announced on Wednesday that their star quarterback, Joe Burrow, will not need surgery for the sprained knee he sustained during the Super Bowl. Burrow, who was sacked by Rams linebacker Von Miller in the fourth quarter of the game, was clearly in severe pain after suffering the injury, but still managed to finish the game.
#Bengals QB Joe Burrow suffered a knee injury in the Super Bowl that won't require surgery, sources say, based on initial tests. He’ll have to rehab, but the sprain shouldn’t drastically alter his offseason.

Luckily, the knee that he sprained in the Super Bowl was his right knee, not the left knee which he tore his MCL and ACL in 2020, requiring him to miss the remainder of that season. The Bengals stated that Burrow’s knee sprain which he sustained on Sunday will simply cause Burrow to undergo an extensive recovery process, but no surgery. Burrow should be ready to play for Week 1 of next season, according to the team.
