As we patiently await the upcoming season of Bridgerton, Netflix announced that Sex Education‘s, Simone Ashley, will be joining the cast as the female lead to opposite main lead, Jonathan Bailey, in the period-drama series!
Ashley will be taking on the role of Kate Sharma, known as Kate Sheffield in the book series, “a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools – Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”
In a continuation of their efforts to present inclusivity and representation in all stories, Bridgerton has reimagined Kate Sheffield as a character being of Indian descent. Fans have expressed nothing but joy for Ashley to take on the role of the beloved character.
Netflix announced the renewal of the series last month and also revealed that the season will center around Bailey’s character, Anthony Bridgerton, and his journey to finding a satisfactory marriage partner in the upcoming social season.
There’s no set release date for season 2 just yet, but they are going back into production this spring. You can catch the first season of Bridgerton exclusively on Netflix right now!
