Britney Spears’ Request to Remove Father as Co-Conservator Denied

Britney Spears’ request to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed from her conservatorship has been denied once again.

On Wednesday (June 30), Variety reported that the Los Angeles Superior Court filed new court documents containing the denial. This request was submitted by Spears’ attorney, Samuel Ingham III, back in November 2020. The singer has not filed a new petition requesting the termination of her conservatorship.

The documents officially approved the financial company Bessemer Trust as a co-conservator. However, Variety reported today (July 1) that Bessemer Trust has requested to withdraw from the arrangement altogether. The company wants to resign from the role as co-conservator out of respect for Spears and her wishes to end the conservatorship.

The announcements come a week after Spears gave a heartbreaking testimony detailing the pain and trauma she has experienced under the 13-year long conservatorship. In her statement, she said, “I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

Celebrities all over the world have spoken out in support of the pop star. Among those include Paris HiltonChristina Aguilera, and her younger sister, Jamie-Lynn Spears. Singer Iggy Azalea also took to Twitter to give her thoughts on the #FreeBritney conversation.

In Azalea’s statement, she describes her personal experience with Spears from when they collaborated in 2015 on the song “Pretty Girls.” She wants the public to know that Spears is telling the truth about her abusive conservatorship. She said, “I saw her (Spears) restricted from even the most bizarre & trivial things: like how many sodas she was allowed to drink.”

Before the two artists performed at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, Azalea said Spears’ father went into her dressing room and told her to sign an NDA. During the encounter, she said, “If I did not sign an NDA, he would not allow me on stage,” she continues. “Britney Spears should not be forced to co-exist with that man when she’s made it clear it is negatively impacting her mental health.”
