Season 22 winner of NBC‘s The Voice Bryce Leatherwood is opening another chapter post-championship with the release of his new track “Still Learning.”
Written by Randy Montana, Jeremy Spillman and Brett Sheroky, the song is the Republic Records / Mercury Nashville recording artist’s latest offering, and it reflects on the lessons that you learn throughout life — the good, the bad and everything in between.
“A huge part of growing up is learning lessons the hard way, not always getting it right,” Leatherwood says in a press release. “I love when a country song can impart a little wisdom, and this song is about: living, learning and realizing it’s okay to make mistakes, because at the end of the day, we’re all still learning.”
Only 24-years-old himself, the songsmith is finding his footing within country music and has confessed that there are a few lessons that he has learned since winning the most-watched reality competition series.
“That I can do more than I thought I could,” the songwriter tells Celeb Secrets Country‘s Brianna Vacca backstage at CMA Fest 2024 earlier this month. “I’ve always tried to be humble and never out step anything, but you gotta be larger in life, you know? That’s hard for me. So, I think, stepping out of my comfort zone has been the main thing.”
This single serves as a follow up to the singer’s “The One My Daddy Found,” which is an ode to his parents’ love story. Written with Chris DuBois and Lynn Hutton, it sets a standard for the songsmith as he cherishes traditional love and doesn’t want to find it by swiping on an app.
“It’s a song I wrote in April of 2023, and the premise is every guy wants to find a girl like their mom who shares those great qualities and that was pretty much the sentiment of the song,” he shares. “I wanted this song to be a gift to my parents and write ’em something good. We came up with that song and we wrote it pretty quickly and knew we were going to cut this one. They got emotional. It’s special ’cause they’re my heroes and they’ve been so devoted towards what I want to do with my life and so supportive of this, so it was really special for them.”
Up next? Bryce is making his Grand Ole Opry debut on September 14, 2024.
“I’m scared, nervous, and excited — all of the above,” he reveals. “I just went and took my family there to do a backstage tour, and they got to see what’s gonna happen, and that was special. I’m just so excited to be on that stage. I mean, that’s been my dream since I was very small.”
Bryce also just wrapped his first-ever headlining tour, The Neon Does Tour and was recently featured in Boot Barn’s 2024 spring campaign that highlights newcomers in country music called Taking Flight.
