Hannah Gold Breaks Free From Toxic Relationships with New Single “They Always Come Back” (Listen)

We first came across Pop/R&B recording artist, songwriter and producer Hannah Gold when she released her debut single “Run Away.” At the time, Hannah had just graduated college, started her own record label Candy Landy Records, and was sharing her original music for the first time.

Now, after amassing half-a-million streams across platforms on “Run Away,” Hannah Gold is sharing her follow up single “They Always Come Back.”

Showcasing Gold’s signature tone atop a simple and modern trap-inspired production, “They Always Come Back” is meant to be a song of encouragement to those trying to break free from toxic relationships.

Hannah shares, “I hope that listeners can relate to the chaos of a toxic ex partner constantly trying to win them back. I want listeners to realize that they are strong enough to say no, let go, and move on. It isn’t always in your best interest to repeat old patterns by returning to a failed relationship that both partners gave up on.. Learn from your mistakes, improve yourself, and try again with someone new.”

Of course, we caught up with the talented songstress to get all the details about her single. Check out our interview below and let us know if you’re loving “They Always Come Back” by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.

Celeb Secrets: Hi Hannah! Thank you for chatting with us about They Always Come Back. This is your second release. How do you think your sound has progressed?

Hannah Gold: “Hi! Of course, always a pleasure.

My sound has progressed from being very chill pop with ‘Run Away’ to much more R&B with They Always Come Back. You can definitely notice more diversity with the vocal techniques in They Always Come Back and you can hear me reach higher notes than I did in ‘Run Away.’ There are different instruments heard on the production level and you can notice much more of a groovy vibe. There is a nice contrast between the two songs and it gives listeners something to listen to no matter their mood.”

CS: What does this song mean to you and what do you hope listeners take away from it?

HG: “;They Always Come Back’ is a post-breakup anthem that screams female empowerment and moving on. ‘They Always Come Back’ is about ex partners trying to re-enter your life after you’ve been broken up. It is also about being strong enough to recognize toxic patterns and not fall back into the same old traps. When we are young and naive, we often return to partners who are bad for us simply because we don’t know better or don’t realize that there are better people out there for us. ‘They Always Come Back’ is about saying no to players, liars, cheaters, manipulators, and gaslighters. They Always Come Back is about knowing better and learning your worth. It is about gaining the strength to say “no” to an ex even when your heart wants to say ‘yes.’

I think that my listeners will resonate with the theme of They Always Come Back because everyone has exes trying to wiggle their way back into their lives. Good thing this is 2022, the year where we say ‘no’ to taking cheaters and liars back. From now on, we avoid red flags and seek out the good guys who will treat us right.”

CS: You are writing, recording and producing your own music. That is quite an amazing feat! What advice can you give to other young artist who want to get started but are intimidated by the idea of doing everything on their own?

HG: “Just take things one step at a time. Don’t put pressure on yourself to always complete a full song in one setting. Sometimes its just a harmony, chorus, or bridge that comes to you and that’s completely fine! Before I was able to write full songs, I practiced writing hooks, verses, and choruses, one at a time in my song journal. I also recorded voice memos of harmonies and melodies that came to me throughout the day. With production, you can start with one element and keep building on, one step at a time. Instead of focusing on creating a whole piece all at once, just start with the bits and pieces until it all flows together as one! Also, collaboration is a beautiful thing in this industry and you should never be afraid to reach out to peers for help or to work together on a project. Teamwork makes the dream work :)”

CS: Who are some artists you are currently listening to that influence your sound? How about some artists you grew up listening to?

HG: “Artists currently influencing me are Kehlani, Sasha Sloane, Gracie Abrams, Tate McRae, SZA, Jhené Aiko and James Arthur. I grew up listening to Justin Bieber, Drake, The Weekend, Shawn Mendes, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Rihanna.”

CS: Tell us about Candy Landy Records. What made you want to start your own label and what plans do you have for it in the future?

HG: “Candy Landy was inspired by my desire to work creatively and professionally in the music industry. I have always wanted to start my own business, but I wanted to be able to work creatively within that space. Hence, Candy Landy Records came to be. My first home studio consisted of a workstation, gum-ball machine, candy machine, and arcade machines. The space became my own little candy land that I escaped to as a creative outlet. I have always wanted to release original music but I also wanted to give back and help other young artists achieve their musical dreams. I aim to develop budding talent into superstars. After I release my first EP and have something to show for myself, I will begin signing new talent to Candy Landy. Stay tuned for the next big thing!”

CS” Lastly, can you share any secret behind-the-scenes memories from working on “They Always Come Back?”

HG: “I had a great time recording ‘They Always Come Back’ in Sarasota, Florida with producer Étienne J. Porter. We started by building out a beat and then I just started writing. We had the whole song produced, written, and recorded in one day!

About an hour before my video shoot for ‘They Always Come Back,’ I got a call from the car rental company informing me that the vintage red convertible I rented was not starting. They had no other similar cars available and it was a Sunday, so it was almost impossible to find another car rental company that was open. I needed to think fast to avoid this disaster. After driving down and pleading with the car agency, I was able to secure an orange Lamborghini Huracán at a discount for the mistake. We had to change the vibe of the video but everything ended up working out for the best! I had a great time cruising around Los Angeles in the Lambo and making TikToks of my hot new ride.”
