Hey, Celeb Secrets readers!
Editor Juliet here. This week, I flew out to Los Angeles to cover the 2016 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards and let me tell you… IT. WAS. CRAZY!! Keep reading to learn about my day at the only show where kids celebrate their favorite athletes and the year’s most unforgettable sports moments below.
Our call time to arrive to UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion was at noon. We waited in a special tent and munched on some snacks until we were allowed on the orange carpet.
Last year it was super hot on the orange carpet. The sun was shining and it was about 90 degrees. This year it was pretty much the same thing, but everyone knew they could brave through the scorching temperatures! The carpet looked super official and busy with booths and turns… just like The Oscars!
Before we were escorted inside, I met with our videographer Jozie and our social editor Joe, whose outfits were totally on fleek. We were so ready for an afternoon full of crazy fun! Check out this photo of us below.
The clock struck 2pm and Nickelodeon reps told us that the carpet was officially open! We got in position and waited for sports’ biggest athletes and our favorite Nickelodeon stars to walk by and chat with us. One of our favorite interviews of the afternoon was with professional snowboarder Chloe Kim.Â
If you’ve been following our site for awhile, you know that we started covering action and Olympic sports in January 2015. We were so excited to see Chloe Kim on the carpet because we have been following her riding career for quite some time. The first time we spoke with Chloe, she didn’t have any medals in Snowboard SuperPipe, and now she is the 2x defending gold medalist and breaking records ever since her big win. Its so great to see her killing the game! Check out the full interview with Chloe below.
As the carpet continued, we saw and spoke to so many stars, including Kobe Bryant (Legend Award recipient); Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers); Rob Gronkowski (New England Patriots); Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors); Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride); J.R. Smith, Kyrie Irving, Richard Jefferson, Dahntay Jones, Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert (Cleveland Cavaliers); Von Miller (Denver Broncos); Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons); Michael Strahan; Nick Cannon; Tony Hawk (Skateboarder); Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers); LetÃcia Bufoni (Skateboarder); CC Sabathia (New York Yankees); Nikki and Brie Bella (WWE Divas); Victor Espinoza (Professional Jockey); Emmanuel Sanders (Denver Broncos); Jamie Anderson (Snowboarder); Tyler Toffoli (Los Angeles Kings); Alana Smith (Skateboarder); Jagger Eaton (Skateboarder), Isabela Moner, Madisyn Shipman, the cast of Power Rangers Dino Charge, Jet Jurengsmeyer, Erika Tham, Rico & Raini Rodriguez, the cast of School of Rock, and more. After the orange carpet, it was time to make our way inside UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion for the 2016 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards. Our favorite moment from the show was when NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant was presented with the gold-mohawked Kids’ Choice Sports Legend Award by Zendaya. The award was given to him in recognition of his record-breaking achievements, unrivaled talent and outstanding sportsmanship on and off the basketball court. Upon receiving his award, Bryant was doused from head to toe in glistening gold slime.
The show was absolutely amazing, and definitely exceeded our expectations when it came to slime! For more on what happened at the show, check out our full recap here.
