Celine Dion is slated to not only perform at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, but to also receive the show’s highest honor – the Icon Award.
The Billboard Icon Award was first established in 2011 and has since been given to some amazing honorees such as Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder, the late Prince, and Neil Diamond. In addition to receiving this prestigious accolade, the 10-time Billboard award-winner will be taking the stage to perform her own rendition of Queen‘s “The Show Must Go On“.
“I think at this moment in her life, the song has many meanings and it’s an amazing choice,” executive producer Mark Bracco said about the mother of three’s song choice.
This will be Dion’s first TV performance since her husband’s tragic death earlier this year. He was first diagnosed with throat cancer back in 1999. 15 years later, Dion announced that his cancer had progressed and that he had only “months to live.” René Angélil passed away on January 14, 2016 – two days before his 74th birthday.
iara and Ludacris are set to host the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on May 22nd (Sunday) at 8 pm.
