CG5’s “Project U Move” Premiere Was a VHS-Fueled Horror Fever Dream – And We Were There for Every Scare (Review)

Lights, camcorder, jump scare.

CG5 is no stranger to pushing creative boundaries, but his latest project Project U Move is seriously next level. The chart-topping musical artist and internet sensation made his horror movie debut during an exclusive red carpet premiere at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills on April 1 — and yes, it was as wild, wonderful, and spine-tingling as you’d expect.

Presented as part of the Beverly Hills Film Festival, the event celebrated the 30-minute feature-length culmination of CG5’s three-part horror series, Project U Move, a passion project that doubles as a promo for his latest EP U MOVE, which dropped March 28. The project, co-directed and produced with William Bradford, blends music, manipulation, and consciousness into a twisted and thrilling journey unlike anything CG5 has ever released.

Before the premiere screening, we caught up with CG5 and his co-star Piper Rubio (Five Nights at Freddy’s, anyone?) for a chaotic and cute chat on the carpet. The vibe? Horror-core meets wholesome chaos.

Piper, who’s no stranger to creepy characters and spooky scripts, told Celeb Secrets she had an absolute blast filming. “It wasn’t work… it was leaning towards comedy, which was really fun,” she smiled. The biggest challenge? “When Charlie [CG5] added random bits midway through filming,” she laughed, to which CG5 playfully chimed in, “I hope that one day you’ll forgive me.”

Spoiler alert: she did. “You made everything better,” she admitted, solidifying that these two are true creative soulmates.

When asked about the deeper themes in the film, CG5 got real about the impact of tech on our brains. “You can be very hyper-focused on anything you choose, but usually it can be your phone… the things we look at these days can manipulate our brains,” he said. “Touch some grass. Be good on your phone.”

“Facts,” Piper agreed. (Same, girl.)

This was also Piper’s first-ever red carpet premiere, thanks to the SAG strike impacting her last big horror release. “It’s crazy. All my friends were like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so cool,’” she said, positively glowing. “And now I’m here!” We love a full-circle premiere moment.

And if CG5 could cast anyone in his next horror project? “Josh Hutcherson… but I’d tower over him, so I hope he’s not scared of that,” he joked. Josh, if you’re reading this — CG5 is ready to collect.

Let’s get into the movie. Project U Move is a genre-bending thriller that fuses CG5’s signature music with psychological horror, sprinkled with unexpected humor and major VHS-core vibes. Shot entirely on an old-school camcorder, the film feels like a love letter to ‘80s and ‘90s horror — grainy, glitchy, and gloriously unsettling.

But don’t be fooled by the retro visuals — the VFX are legit. Between dimensional shifts, supernatural flashes, and dreamlike transitions, the editing work is chef’s kiss. You’re not just watching a film — you’re living inside CG5’s chaotic brain.

The music? As expected, fire. Unlike traditional horror scores full of eerie strings and screechy violins, CG5 brings in bold, pop-infused beats that slap. It’s upbeat, almost danceable — which only makes the scares hit harder. The soundtrack pulses through the plot, blurring the lines between music video and narrative in a way that’s totally CG5-coded.

Let’s set the scene: fans packed into the Fine Arts Theatre, decked out in white and red, buzzing with anticipation. The red carpet was a vibe with photo ops and a real sense of community — the kind you only get when creators invite their fanbase into the heart of their creative process.

During the Q&A that followed, CG5 was all smiles (and a little emotional), sharing how surreal it was to see his little horror idea come to life on the big screen.

The audience was right there with him — screaming at the jump scares, laughing at the meta-humor, and vibing hard with the music. It felt less like a film screening and more like a shared horror party.

Project U Move isn’t just a film — it’s an experience. It’s what happens when a creative powerhouse like CG5 decides to blur genres, mess with your mind, and throw a little nostalgia in for good measure.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or brand new to the CG5 universe, this is a project that demands to be seen — and heard — with full volume and full attention. Just don’t forget to touch some grass afterwards.
